Trade and Marine Environment Protection: Status and Perspective of International, Regional and National Laws
This volume compiles the proceedings of the international conference held on 6–7 April 2023 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, organized by the Foreign Trade University (FTU) in collaboration with the University of Tours and the University of Rennes 2 (France), and supported by the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the WTO Chairs Programme. The book features 18 chapters exploring the intersection of international trade and marine environmental protection, with a particular focus on the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies. Topics include the legal and policy implications of the agreement, regional perspectives such as ASEAN’s potential for a unified stance, and national case studies like Viet Nam’s regulatory challenges and opportunities. The contributions critically assess the effectiveness, limitations, and implementation hurdles of the agreement, especially in addressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and promoting sustainable fisheries management.
