Trade Topics
AI and Research

On 6 March 2025, Prof Henri Bezuidenhout, member of the WTO-WCP Team, presented a dynamic and forward-looking workshop titled “AI and Us” to members of the School of Economics. This three-hour session formed part of the Chair’s ongoing commitment to Curriculum Development, equipping scholars and postgraduate students with the tools needed to navigate an increasingly digital academic environment.
The workshop had a dual focus:
1. Supporting academics in enhancing their own research, teaching, and professional work through the effective use of AI platforms.
2. Strengthening postgraduate supervision and guidance, ensuring students learn to use AI responsibly and productively in their research journeys.
Participants received a comprehensive overview of leading AI platforms and explored practical applications ranging from teaching and lecturing to research design, coding, and statistical analysis. Sessions on student research, academic research, and AI-driven problem-solving provided hands-on insights that attendees can immediately apply in their work.
An outline of the workshop programme can be viewed in the attached document.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A, reflecting the School’s growing interest in integrating AI tools into both pedagogy and research. The workshop stands as another milestone in the WTO-WCP Chair’s mission to prepare the next generation of scholars for a rapidly evolving digital world.
