Standards and Technical Regulations in International Trade

This course provides an overview on Technical regulations and standards along with conformity assessment, which are the pillars that support global trade and allow it to function smoothly and promote public policy objectives such as protecting human health or the environment. It provides understanding of National standards policies and specifics of national regulatory regimes and set guidelines which lay down product characteristics or their related processes and production methods, including administrative provisions.

Having successfully completed this module, students should be able to demonstrate
knowledge and understanding of:
• The importance of Technical regulations and standards to international trade.
• The effectiveness of standards and conformity assessments.
• Things like facilitating exports and economic development
• The relationship between national regulation and international trade rules and assess the impact of the WTO at the national level
