Presented paper on "Migration, Diasporas and SDGs" UN CDP/UNAM LNOB Expert Group Meeting, Mexico City

Migration and the growth of global diasporas are key contemporary trends which impact on the pledge to “leave no one behind” in the 2030 Agenda. The developmental potential of migration is captured in four Goals and five Targets in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The paper offers critical perspectives on the SDGs targets with a discussion on the economic challenges as well as the opportunities for trade and entrepreneurship. The focus is particularly on remittances (including South-South remittances) and other financial investments such as diaspora savings and bonds.

Service trade liberalization in Oman

The chair conducted a study on service trade liberalization in Oman collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The service sector in Oman contributes around 41% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and has shown a sustained annual growth of 12% during the last four years. This compares favorably with the industrial and agricultural sectors where the annual growth during the same period reached 9 and 7% respectively.

Trade in Services and Development: The Case of Perception in Chile

Trade in services and its positive relation with countries’ development has been a consideration in the design of public policies. In particular, since the return of democracy, it has been pointed out by Chilean authorities the intention to improve services exports to add value and diversify its basket. Since the first decade of the 2000 the State has implemented a series of programs and strategies directed to achieve these objectives. However, the matrix remains anchored in natural resources, particularly copper. Although trade in services has increased, it has not done so as expected.

Objectifs :
Ce cours a pour objectif principal la maitrise du fonctionnement des marches internationaux des changes et des instruments qui y sont utilisés. Aujourd’hui avec la
déréglementation qui se généralise les acteurs doivent maîtriser les mécanismes du marché et les instruments négociés. Ce cours va s’intéresser aux marchés des changes, aux marchés des produits dérivés qui permettent la couverture des risques et au marché des matières premières et de l’energie.

CDP4: IV Workshop on the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS): A relevant course for policymakers and practitioners to enhance the knowledge of the Trade in Services and E-commerce while motivates policymakers and practitioners to pursue further qualifications in the field. The course was given by Mr. Martin Roy and Ms. Lee Tuthill on the rules of the GATS and e-commerce at FGV-SP 7-9 November 2018.
