WTO Chair Holder for Turkey attended the WTO Public Forum 2017 and also undertook research in the WTO library on the basis of the discussions followed during the Forum. The Chair holder had the opportunity to listen to other Chair holders presenting their research at the Public Forum. The Chair Holder gathered information and improved her knowledge on recent developments in world trade by attending different sessions taking place within the framework of the Forum.
The members of the WCP Team undertook a research theme that is in close connection to the recent WTO research, in particular the 2018 World Trade Report that was dedicated to transformative impact of digital technologies on labour and trade. To that end, the WCP Team organized a Conference on September 13th and 14th, 2018 on the “Implications of the Economic and Technological Developments on Trade, Labour and Social Security Laws”. The Conference proceedings will be edited by the WCP Team Member Prof.
WTO Chair Holder attended the Biannual Conference of the Society of International Economic Law in Washington, DC and delivered a presentation on “Trade and Competition: Time to Embrace Complementarity and Interdependence” as part of the WTO Chairs panel.
The paper analyzes the structure of poverty and trade openness in Morocco, and how trade liberalization affects poverty. We present regional evidence in the last fifteen years. We illustrate significant regional differences in term of poverty, vulnerability, inequality and trade openness. We discuss the driving factors of these regional discrepancies. Our approach is based on estimation on a panel model, including the 14 regions. Our results show that extreme poverty is almost eradicated in Morocco, except for some areas.
