How far can Indonesia go? Utilizing TSIA on the would-be TPP impact for Indonesia?

By offering the Trade Sustainability Impact Assessment (TSIA) assessment tools and beyond, the article discusses economic and non-economic aspects worth considering in light of Indonesia’s interest to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). It identifies trade and non-trade elements of which future signatories of TPP Agreement such as Indonesia must take into account prior to its final decision on whether to join.

WTO Public Forum 2017 participation and dissemination of information to wider Turkish public

WTO Chair Holder for Turkey attended the WTO Public Forum 2017 and also undertook research in the WTO library on the basis of the discussions followed during the Forum. The Chair holder had the opportunity to listen to other Chair holders presenting their research at the Public Forum. The Chair Holder gathered information and improved her knowledge on recent developments in world trade by attending different sessions taking place within the framework of the Forum.

First Meeting of the UNDP-SIDA Working Group on SDGs

The Chair is a member of the UNDP-SIDA working group on trade and sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the Arab region. The working group mission is to develop trade policy proposals within the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) that will enhance the implementation of the SDGs. The first meeting of the working group took place on May 9-10 2017 in Cairo Egypt. The objective was to consider and adopt a structured work program. and discuss background papers which are prepared as the basis for further deliberations and exchange of views.

Trade in services and its positive relation with countries’ development has been a consideration in the design of public policies. In particular, since the return of democracy, it has been pointed out by Chilean authorities the intention to improve services exports to add value and diversify its basket. Since the first decade of the 2000 the State has implemented a series of programs and strategies directed to achieve these objectives. However, the matrix remains anchored in natural resources, particularly copper. Although trade in services has increased, it has not done so as expected.

Sectoral FDI and food security in Developing Countries: Does institutional quality matter?

Developing countries (DCs) have high population growth and food demand. Food security still one of the main goals in these countries. Moreover, foreign direct investment (FDI) is at the heart of their investment policy. For DCs attract FDI is an instrument to improve the economic growth and to generate positive spillovers on the economy. However, some negative effects could contradict this optimistic view. Taking into account the importance of local institutional quality, we investigate the effects of sectoral FDI on food security.
