Comércio e Gênero: um novo tema na agenda internacional

In September 2015, the United Nations member states agreed on a new agenda on sustainable development that sets a range of gender related goals that shall be achieved by the international community in the following years. Among them, the women’s economic empowerment holds fundamental importance due to potential gains to economic growth and development of Nations. Researches show that women with their own income are more independent and less vulnerable. Also, women invest most of their revenue in their own community, helping to develop all society in the long run.

Threshold effect of globalization on democracy: The role of demography

The literature presents conflicting expectations about the effect of globalization on democracy. One view expects globalization to enhance democracy, a second argues that globalization obstructs democracy; a third argues that it does not necessarily affect democracy. In this paper, we consider the threshold effect approach (Hansen, 1999) to reconcile these different results. We study the role of demography in the determination of the relationship between globalization and democracy.

CHRISTOPH LEITL: “EU and Latin America economic relations in a challenging global environment”

FLACSO Argentina organized the WTO Chair of the Law and Public goods program on October 4th, 2018. Christoph Leitl gave a talk on “EU and Latin American economic relations in a challenging global environment” and discussed the experience of the EU chambers driving the EU project forward and helping businesses reap the benefits.

The theory of international trade is one of the oldest subfields of Economics and its central concerns remain those of David Ricardo. In recent years the field of international economics has exhibited a major expansion of the range of topics studied and of the analytical tools brought to bear on them. This course attempts to cover a wide range of topics which are considered to be of current interest. A good grasp of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics is necessary for this course as well as a vivid interest in actual international economic issues.

XEA Introduction to International Trade Theory and Policy/ XEA 309 International

The course aims at analyzing the international economic system and the main problems and events, especially with regard to Kenya and other developing countries. Emphasis will lie on the theoretical framework that helps to explain the actual economic scene.

Advanced dispute settlement course (Mexico City), Community outreach (Guadalajara)

The WTO Chair for Mexico conducted outreach activities in Guadalajara 22-24 August 2018, featuring presentations by Maria Pereyra, Senior Counsellor, Legal Affairs Divisions, Dr. Edna Ramirez Robles, Professor at the University of Guadalajara and Tec de Monterrey (Campus Guadalajara), and Dr. Bradly Condon, Chairholder, WTO Chair for Mexico. On August 22, we met with the Director of International Affairs for the University of Guadalajara.

Annual Conference on International trade: Brazil in the 20 years of the WTO

The CGTI/FGV organizes, at the end of each academic year, a national conference on International Trade to the Brazilian audience, especially policymakers, government staff, practitioners and academics. The main topic was to debate the participation of Brazil in 20 years of the WTO. Besides that, it was also discussed the new Brazilian government and an opportunity to review Brazil Trade Policy, which made the presence of policymakers and government staff even more relevant.
