INDIA AND THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION: CHARTING A NEW MODEL OF TRADE LAW CAPACITY BUILDING, with James Nedumpara

This study provides one of the most practically-informed and empirically grounded analysis of how India has strengthened its dispute settlement participation in trade law through capacity building with the help of cost-effective strategies employed at the domestic level. In particular, this chapter examines the steps that India has taken to transform its domestic institutions and key participants by responding proactively to the demands of the WTO legal system.

The WTO Chair for Mexico conducted outreach activities in Guadalajara 22-24 August 2018, featuring presentations by Maria Pereyra, Senior Counsellor, Legal Affairs Divisions, Dr. Edna Ramirez Robles, Professor at the University of Guadalajara and Tec de Monterrey (Campus Guadalajara), and Dr. Bradly Condon, Chairholder, WTO Chair for Mexico. On August 22, we met with the Director of International Affairs for the University of Guadalajara.

Captain America and the Tarnishing of the Crown: The Feud between the WTO Appellate Body and the USA

The Appellate Body is considered the jewel in the crown of the WTO dispute settlement system. However, the United States has become increasingly assertive in its efforts to control judicial activism at the WTO. This article examines judicial activism in the Appellate Body, and discusses the efforts of the United States to constrain the Appellate Body in this context. It also analyzes US actions and proposals regarding the dispute settlement systems of the NAFTA, in order to place the WTO debate in a wider context.

Annual Conference on International trade: Brazil in the 20 years of the WTO

The CGTI/FGV organizes, at the end of each academic year, a national conference on International Trade to the Brazilian audience, especially policymakers, government staff, practitioners and academics. The main topic was to debate the participation of Brazil in 20 years of the WTO. Besides that, it was also discussed the new Brazilian government and an opportunity to review Brazil Trade Policy, which made the presence of policymakers and government staff even more relevant. The future of the WTO in a Multipolar World with Mr. Pascal LAMY

The Center for Global Trade and Investment Studies of the FGV School of Economics invites interested practitioners, government staff and academics to the International Conference on the Future of WTO in a Multipolar World with Mr. Pascal Lamy.

Mr. Pascal Lamy is the former Director-General of the WTO, acting from September 2005 to August 2013. The Conference will focus on important issues to the World Trading System, specifically on the impacts of preferential trade agreements and mega-agreements to the WTO.
