8th Asian International Economic Law Network Conference at NTU on 1-2 December 2023

The Asian Center for WTO & International Health Law and Policy (“ACWH”) of National Taiwan University (“NTU”) co-held the 8th Asian International Economic Law Network Conference (“AIELN”) at NTU on 1-2 December 2023. The seminar’s theme is “The New Generation of Economic Agreements in the Asia Pacific,” which gathered scholars from more than ten countries. Prof. Junji Nakagawa, AIELN’s chairperson , opened the conference, followed by Prof. Yueh-Ping (Alex) Yang, ACWH’s director and the local host of this event.

On November 4, 2023, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a significant master class titled "The Art of Negotiation." The event was exclusively curated for the negotiation team of Uzbekistan, that is currently striving to secure its membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO). Olive Oil World Price Forecasting: A Bayesian VAR Approach, published in Journal of Agricultural & Food Industrial Organization

The Tunisian olive oil strategy is based on the development of exports. Extension and modernization measures of Tunisian olivegrove have come into effect these recent years in order to increase the exports and diversify the target markets. Like any other agricultural good, olive oil is subject to world price fluctuations. Forecasting the long-term world price of olive oil is essential both as a decision-making tool and as a strategic factor for the development of the sector. This paper attempts to forecast the long-term olive oil world price using annual time series.

Adequate Level of Data Protection and ADR in Cross-border Data Disputes — International Trade Law Perspective

Regulatory measures on cross-border data flows are essential to personal data protection laws. The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) of the European Union (“EU”) is one of such influential personal data protection regimes, which has become a model and has been adopted by many countries. The GDPR aims to ensure the protection of natural persons regarding the processing of personal data. To protect personal data outside the EU, the GDPR provides certain safeguards for its movement across the EU border.

WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION (WTO) LAW AND TRADE-01 LAW, at Koc University, Istanbul

The course focuses on the laws, principles, functioning and jurisprudence of International Trade Law. Students understand the principles of multilateral and bilateral trade and engage with the practice of international trade law with the help of current jurisprudence and hypothetical dispute scenarios. The students receive an appreciation of the purpose and functions of the WTO and be familiar with its principal rules, impact and jurisprudence. Currently, it is only performing its executive function, as the other two functions remain stalled.
