Methodologically in Contrast to WTO Non-Discrimination Principle and with Special Reference to China’s Related Judicial Practice

The kernel of the non-discrimination principle seems to be easily understandable, but actually a specific interpretation of it could be very knotty in the complicated FRAND context. A methodologically comparative illumination can be conducive to uncovering the inherent complexity of the non-discrimination principle. In addition, the non-discrimination prong of FRAND is unavoidably intertwined with non-disclosure agreements between SEP licensors and licensees.

15th WIPO – WTO Colloquium for Teachers of Intellectual Property, presented on "The Creative Economy and Copyright-Industries"

Since 2004, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) have jointly organized an annual two-week colloquiums for teachers of intellectual property from developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The aim is to help teachers become more aware of the Geneva institutions, negotiations and other activities dealing with intellectual property law and policy, and to strengthen their countries’ independent research, policy analysis and teachings in international intellectual property law with its diverse policy contexts.

IP Value Capture: Fostering trade by capturing the value of creative industries in developing countries

The paper explores growth opportunities for developing countries by adding value through the use of IP. Through IP, developing countries can expand their participation in global value chains and reduces their dependence on traditional low value-added commodity agriculture, mineral, and services exports. This paper specifically examines the contribution of IP to the development of creative industries.

Blockchains and Trade-Related Copyright: Digitalization and the Trade 2030 Agenda

This paper, in addressing trade-related aspects of copyright, assesses the challenges and opportunities for creative industries in developing countries, especially, as it relates to making the transition to a digital creative economy and the adoption of block-chain technologies. The music industry is used as a case study because it is the creative sector which has experienced the greatest level of digital disruption and also among the first to embrace block-chain.

Professor Bradly Condon, WTO Chairholder for Mexico, did a presentation on “The Multilateral Trade System and the Environment” (El sistema multilateral de comercio y el medio ambiente), at the Seminar for Latin American journalists in Mexico City on 23 October 2018. The event was organized by the WTO and the Secretariat of Economy of the Government of Mexico. The seminar, which was held in Spanish, brought together journalists from all over Latin America. Professor Condon gave a 15 minute presentation, which was followed by a 90 minute question and answer session with the journalists.
