First session of the 2024 Advanced Seminar on Digital Economy and Trade Capacity Building

On April 19–21, 2024, the first session of the 2024 Advanced Seminar on Digital Economy and Trade Capacity Building, hosted by the China Association of Trade in Services was held in Hangzhou Normal University, Zhejiang Province. Dr. GAO Tiantian from the WTO Chair Institute-China was invited to attend. During the seminar, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and multi-dimensional exchanges focusing on cutting-edge topics in the digital economy and trade capacity building.

Do natural resources influence E-government in developing countries? Effects and transmission channels

E-government has taken a prominent place in the political and economic debate. Despite the vast nonconsensual literature, on the effects of natural resources, very little is known about the effects of these resources on the development of e-government. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing the effect of natural resources on the development of e-government in a panel of 121 developing countries over the period 2003–2021. Through several empirical approaches, our results show that, on average, natural resource rents negatively affect the development of e-government.

How does Digital Technology Affect Export in Services?

This volume reviews issues that address the interconnection between digital economy, sustainability and international economic law. It covers a range of topics, including renewables subsidies, AI and corporate governance, digital currency, dispute resolution and new developments in trade law. The selection of chapters intends to illustrate how the digital economic, sustainable development goals and arrangements could influence and potentially shape international economic law, and how they are intertwined in an increasingly connected world.

Engaging in the digital economy: issues and agenda in the quest to adopt Indonesia’s e-commerce roadmap

The study explores structural and practical issues following the adoption of Indonesia’s e-commerce roadmap (2017–2019) and its implications for the future of the country’s digital economy. Two major categories of issues are examined in order to identify problems and challenges confronted by related stakeholders. The first category, i.e. the structural one, relates to the larger governance context of the country’s digital economy to which e-commerce activities are attached.
