Government subsidies, ownership structure and operating performance of state-owned enterprises: evidence from China

Government subsidies have been used as a policy tool by many countries. Given the importance of government subsidies in the context of Chinese economy and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), this study seeks to understand the role played by government subsidies in the operating performance of Chinese SOEs. Using panel data on Chinese SOEs to construct the fixed-effects regression models, this study examines the effects of government subsidies and explores the moderating role of ownership structure in the correlation between government subsidies and operating performance of SOEs.

A Chinese Perspective on WTO Reform

This book discusses the most recent developments in the WTO regime. Issues such as E-commerce, security exception clause, China's compliance with the WTO obligations, sustainability development, IP protection in FTZs, trade controls and etc., are at the forefront of WTO studies. These issues strongly influence people's understanding of the current role of WTO and provides possible way to revitalize the function of WTO.

Trade in goods of the EAEU countries with China and the effects of its possible liberalization

This presentation deals with trade in goods of the Eurasion Economic Union countries with China and the effects of further liberalization.

Taming SOEs within a Redefined Competition Policy Framework: An Alternative Approach for Consensus?

With the growing concern of the international community about the negative spillover effects of SOEs on trade, reaching a consensus among different stakeholders has become increasingly urgent. This paper argues that strengthening a redefined competition policy is a feasible alternative, or at least a complementary option to the existing trade framework.

Technical Support and Talents Development for China’s E-commerce and Digital Economy Negotiation

This project is intended to deliver research outputs and solutions to the major problems facing e-commerce and the digital economy in China and the WTO. The first part of the research will examine what approach China should take regarding global governance of the digital economy in the face of the US, EU and Japan's strategies, and in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also examine China's efforts to constrain data governance hegemony through the "Digital Silk Road," a component of the Belt and Road Initiative.
