Technological advancement and the new context for international trade and investment

On January 9, 2023, the Foreign Trade University (FTU) successfully hosted the FTU WTO Chair Website Launch Ceremony and an International Conference titled “Technological Advancement and the New Context for International Trade and Investment”. Held in Hanoi and streamed online via Zoom, the bilingual event (English and Vietnamese) brought together academic leaders, policymakers, and industry experts.
The first part of the event marked the official launch of the FTU WTO Chair website, showcasing a video summary of the project's first year and highlighting its role in promoting research and dialogue on international trade and WTO-related issues.
The second part featured an international conference with two sessions. Session 1 focused on the impact of technological progress on global trade, with insights from representatives of USAID Vietnam and the WTO Chairs Programme. Session 2 was a roundtable discussion on the evolving landscape of international trade and investment, featuring speakers from Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, private sector leaders, and FTU faculty.
The event concluded with remarks emphasizing the importance of digital transformation, cross-sector collaboration, and strategic policy engagement in shaping Vietnam’s role in the global trade system.
