The precautionary principle has no univocal concept. Although used in various legal documents, the principle remains contested on its rational-scientific basis and in its usefulness in mitigating environmental damages. Concerning these two dimensions, the opposition between the American and the European perspectives on the subject stands out. This duality of views is identified, for example, within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which, although adopting the principle in certain circumstances, limits its application. This article aims to analyze how the precautionary principle is used in the OECD in its various normative documents and in the analytical reports produced by its experts.
