The Asian Center for WTO & International Health Law and Policy (“ACWH”) of the National Taiwan University College of Law (“NTU Law”) is pleased to invite submissions for its Young Scholar Workshop on International Economic Law to be held on December 6-7, 2024 at NTU Law in Taipei, Taiwan.

The Workshop’s purpose is to highlight, develop, and promote the scholarship of young and emerging scholars in international economic laws, including international trade, investment, finance, intellectual property, technology, public health, dispute settlement, etc.

Submissions will only be accepted from “young scholars,” which is defined as graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, lecturers, fellows, professors, and other scholars, provided that they have not held a full-time academic position for more than ten years as of July 31, 2024.

Up to ten (10) papers will be chosen from those submitted for presentation at the workshop pursuant to this Call for Papers. The workshop audience will be limited to invited young scholars, faculty from the National Taiwan University and other law schools in the region, and other invited guests. Each selected paper will be assigned a discussant, followed by discussions between the audience.

- Abstracts submission deadline: August 31, 2024

- Abstracts acceptance notification: September 20, 2024

- Full paper submission deadline: November 20, 2024

- Workshop dates: December 6-7, 2024

Submission:

- Scholars should email an attachment in Microsoft Word or PDF containing an abstract of 500-1000 words by 12:00 P.M. August 31, 2024, to: wtocenter@ntu.edu.tw.

- Please title the email “Young Scholar Workshop Submission - [Name]”.

- Abstracts should reflect original academic research that has not yet been published by the time of the Workshop, although it may have been accepted for publication.

- Abstracts should include a cover page with the author’s name, the paper’s title, institutional affiliation, contact information, and the author’s certification that they qualify as a younger scholar as defined above.

- Scholars may make only one submission. Both individual and co-authored submissions are accepted. For co-authored submissions, at least one author must qualify as an eligible young scholar.

Review, Notification, and Presentation:

- The organizing committee will select abstracts via a blind review. Authors of the submissions selected for the workshop will be notified no later than September 20, 2024.

- Applicants whose abstracts pass the review process will be invited to present at the Workshop in person. Paper presenters shall submit the final papers no later than November 20, 2024. Late submissions will not be eligible for prizes.

- There is no cost to register for the Workshop. Participants are responsible for securing their own funding for travel, lodging, and other incidental expenses.

- The organizing committee will select the First and Second Prize Winners after reviewing the final papers. The First Prize Winner will be awarded USD 800 (after-tax), and the Second Prize Winner will be awarded USD 650 (after-tax).

- Paper presenters and submitters are encouraged to submit their papers to two journals published by ACWH on a semiannual basis: the Asian Journal of WTO & International Health Law and Policy (“AJWH”), an SSCI- and SCOPUS-indexed journal, and the Contemporary Asia Arbitration Journal (“CAAJ”), an ESCI-indexed journal. Publications are subject to peer-review processes.
