The Tunis Business School (TBS) at the University of Tunis has become a member of the Virtual Institute, expanding its membership to 117 academic institutions in 58 countries.
Tunisia - 25 June 2015
The process of membership began to take shape when TBS Assistant Professor, Leila Baghdadi, participated in the Virtual Institute online course on trade and poverty in 2012. Established in 2010, Tunis Business School is the first public business education institution in Tunisia using English as the language of instruction. Through its teaching, research and outreach activities, it aims to prepare managers and leaders who can successfully compete in the global business environment.
Recently awarded a WTO Chair in 2014, TBS offers a Bachelor‘s degree in Business Administration which will open an specialization in economic analysis and policies in September 2015. The specialization will include courses on trade theory, trade policy, advanced microeconomics, advanced macroeconomics, econometrics, and international political economy. The School also plans to launch a new Master's programme in Economics which is currently undergoing an approval process by the Ministry of Higher Education.
TBS' research work covers a range of “trade and development” issues, such as trade and poverty, non-tariff barriers, trade in services, multilateral trade negotiations, WTO dispute settlement, exchange rate regimes, firms in international trade, and transparency in emerging markets.
Vi's cooperation with TBS will be coordinated by Leila Baghdadi. She holds a PhD in International Economics, teaches courses on micro and microeconomics and trade policy, and focuses her research on regional trade agreements, economic aspects of migration, and trade liberalization and poverty.
TBS is ready to cooperate with other members in research, organization of workshops and conferences, staff and student exchanges, provision of training to interested members, and development of teaching tools on macroeconomics and development macroeconomics.
TBS expects that the cooperation with the Vi will contribute to enhancing their research and teaching expertise, particularly in relation to trade issues, and help them enrich their teaching materials and courses.
