The theme of public governance is a theme that came to the OECD in the 1990s. The Public Governance Committee was created in 1996. Since then, the OECD has given special emphasis to this area, since it believes that an efficient government, which manages adequately its resources, returns to its population better public services. This text aims to explain the evolution of the theme in the OECD, its perspective on good public governance, its areas of activity and the legal instruments available to encourage its members to comply with its guidelines on public governance. Finally, it indicates the themes and values that Brazil will have to go through to access the OECD.
