At the initiative of WTO Chair Professor Vera Thorstensen a workshop was held from 6 to 8 July 2015 at the Fundação Getulio Vargas of the University of São Paolo in Brazil.
The workshop was entitled “WTO Dispute Settlement After 20 Years: Evolution, Accomplishments, Paradigmatic Cases and New Interpretations”. The seminar brought together almost 50 participants, including researchers from the University, and professors from other universities, international trade lawyers from São Paolo and Brasilia, representatives of the Government (Office of the Attorney General; Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade; the Federal Revenue Office; the Department of the Treasury; and the Federal Senate) and representatives of industry associations. The workshop, which was led by two experts on dispute settlement from the WTO Secretariat, involved both general and country-specific presentations as well as substantial active participation by participants in the form of a simulation exercise.
