It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Prof. Riza Noer Arfani, the WTO Chair in Indonesia at the Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Prof. Arfani was well known to many, being a part of the very first cohort of Chairs accepted to the Programme. The Chairs Network, the global scientific community, and Indonesia have benefited from his exceptional efforts and contributions, and the team at the Universitas Gadjah Mada has been an active part of the Programme for over a decade under his leadership.

Among numerous achievements, his work on e-commerce has been instrumental to Indonesia's economy and his research on circular economy and environmental sustainability through trade have involved businesses, policymakers, and academics systematically since these activities began. His team and the wide network of people he brought together could not have prepared for this unexpected loss.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
