International Trade Law
The Certificate Course on International Trade Law is being offered by the National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal in collaboration with the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in collaboration with WTO Chairs Programme. The Certificate Course comes at a time when WTO members are convening for the 13th Ministerial Conference to discuss matters of international trade and development, and as India negotiates multiple bilateral trade agreements with trading partners. Given this background and the significance of international trade to the world economy, particularly economies of the Global South, the Certificate Course aims to bring the basics of international trade law to better prepare students about the subject’s intricacies in the classroom by pairing academic knowledge with practical rigor and experience from the negotiation table. The Certificate Course is being held from 2 to 4 March 2024, running for a total of 16 hours, and will include foundational sessions on international trade law and expert panel discussions on subsidies and non-trade issues, both topics of great contemporary relevance. Among other subjects, the Certificate Course will focus on the fundamentals of trade law, intellectual property rights, WTO dispute settlement, trade remedies, international investment law, trade in services, non-tariff barriers, and trade and sustainability. By attending, participants will benefit from extensive and cutting-edge insights on these subjects from academic experts and practitioners, providing an opportunity to challenge their prior knowledge and preparing them for forthcoming challenges of the field of international trade and investment law, and government policies on related matters. The Certificate Course will be conducted in a offline mode and will be open for students from various law colleges across India or abroad.
