WCP in Mexico partners with Ministry of Economy to empower women lawyers

MEXICO CITY – The Ministry of Economy of Mexico, led by Minister Marcelo Ebrard, through its Unit for Regulation, Competitiveness, and Competition (headed by Andrea Solano), in collaboration with the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and the WTO Chairs Programme, Mexico (led by Dr. Amrita Bahri), launched the first-ever Mentoring Programme for Women Lawyers aspiring to enter the profession of Correduría Pública (Public Notary for commerce).

This pioneering initiative provided specialized training for 200 women lawyers—marking it a historic affirmative action in Mexican public administration. The program aims to reduce the gender gap in a field where women currently represent only 16% of Public Notaries in the field of commerce, addressing longstanding male dominance in the profession.

The mentoring scheme seeks to strengthen participants’ legal expertise, enhance visibility in the field, and foster professional networks, aligning with Mexico’s commitment to inclusive economic governance. The workshop took place over two days (April 21–22).
