Trade in Services
Abstract: This course offers a comprehensive overview of the international service trade and the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). It defines key terms and concepts related to services and service trade, including the different modes of service delivery and sector classifications. The course then examines the core aspects of GATS, focusing on access obligations, national treatment, and additional commitments, as well as the scheduling of these commitments and the challenges encountered (such as market access restrictions and commitment modifications). Additionally, it explores broader themes like the evolution of global service trade, the impact and limitations of service reform programs, and the importance of international engagement and regulatory competition in shaping domestic reforms.
