Sustainable development in international trade and investment
This lecture presentation explores the concept and practical implementation of sustainable development (SD) in the context of international trade and investment (ITI). It begins by defining sustainable development as development that meets present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs, as outlined by the United Nations.
The presentation introduces key global frameworks such as the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing their relevance to businesses and governments. It outlines the 10 principles of the UNGC in areas like human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, and discusses how companies can integrate these principles into their operations.
The lecture also highlights Vietnam’s engagement with the UNGC and SDGs, and provides guidance on how sustainable development can be implemented in trade and investment strategies. It encourages a shift in mindset and business models, promoting impact-driven entrepreneurship and the use of tools like the Business Model Canvas and Impact Gaps Canvas.
Through theoretical insights and practical examples, the presentation aims to inspire students and professionals to align economic activities with sustainability goals, fostering inclusive and responsible growth in the global economy.
