At the initiative of WTO Chair Professor Wilma Viviers, a workshop was held from 8 to 11 September 2015 at the North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa.
The workshop was entitled “Empirical Methods in Trade”. It brought together 14 researchers and professors from the university and was led by two research economists from the WTO Secretariat. It included sessions on econometric methods and their applications to trade flows, and partial equilibrium simulations of trade policy changes.
Participants actively participated in the workshop, working on several hands-on applications and discussing challenges faced in research and teaching activities on international trade.
