Barbados - 3 October 2022

Trade topics: Caribbean, Blue Economy, Fisheries, Regional Integration

The Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy and Services (SRC) at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, and the University of Newcastle, are pleased to be jointly hosting a free virtual workshop/short course on “Trade and the Blue Economy” with a focus on CARICOM countries from 3-7 October 2022. The course is being made possible through the sponsorship provided by a number of regional and international organizations. The short course will feature an impressive lineup of regional and international experts at the cutting edge of the intersection between trade and the Blue Economy. It will explore origins of the blue economy and the manner in which it is regulated under international, regional and national governance frameworks with a particular emphasis on how the trade context affects and is affected by the Blue Economy agenda. Using case studies, it will also consider how the blue economy and its sustainable development has been and is best integrated into national/or regional development plans, identifying best practice and ultimately exploring how best the Blue Economy can yield substantial opportunities and benefits to small island development states, like those of CARICOM.
