Professor, School of Economics
Tabitha Kiriti-Nganga is a Professor of Economics in the School of Economics with over 30 years University teaching experience. She attained her PhD from the University of Queensland in Australia. She headed the department of Economic Theory in the School of Economics for 6 years and was the Co-Chair of WTO Chairs Program for 7 years. She is currently the Coordinator of UNCTAD Virtual Institute and the Chair of the WTO Chairs Program in the School. Her areas of interest are international trade, gender issues and other socio-economic issues such as poverty, social protection and health.
She has attended international trade courses offered by the World Bank Institute such as WITS, Analytical and Policy Issues in Macroeconomic Management, UNCTAD and many others. She has won research grants from various organisations such as the International Health Policy Program in 1997, African Technology Policy Studies in 1998, AERC Research Grant in 1997 and 2001, DPM Scholarship in 2000, UNDESA in 2005, Senior Scholars Research Grant by the Organisation for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA in 2008, UNTAD Vi Research Grant in 2009, WTO in 2009, IDRC in 2010, WTO Chairs Program in 2011, Australian Leadership Awards in 2012, UNCRD in 2013, UNDP in 2015, ICTSD in 2015, University of Adelaide in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, UNCTAD in 2014, COMESA in 2016, CETRAD in 2017, UN Women in 2017 and many others.

She has also written books and contributed articles in books. She has also written discussion papers, policy briefs and book reviews. In her teaching career, she has supervised 7 PhD and more than 50 Masters Students.
She is a member of various professional organisations such as International Association of Feminist Economists (IAFFE), Association of African Women Economists (AAWE), Association of African Women on Research and Development (AAWORD) and a researcher in the African Women Research Centre.
Prof. Tabitha K. Nganga was recently nominated a member of the national Trade Negotiations Council and a member of the National Committee on Trade Facilitation. She is also a member of the National Consultative Committee on TBT.
