Saint Petersburg University holds trade remedies seminar

Russia - 4 April 2016

A seminar on trade remedies, organized under the WTO Chairs Programme, was held at the State University of Saint Petersburg on 4-7 April 2016.
The aim of the seminar was to provide Masters and PhD candidates in economics at Saint Petersburg University with a general introduction to the regulation of trade remedies (anti-dumping, countervailing measures, safeguards) in the WTO system. Some 25 students took part in the seminar. These were mostly Russians but also included some international students.
The seminar examined the policies related to the use of trade remedies and the relevant legal conditions. A senior trade remedies expert from the WTO Secretariat led the seminar, using the “Socratic” method of teaching, whereby the students were asked to think through the issues collectively on the basis of hypotheticals.
