Moderated Roundtable Discussions on trade-policy agenda and gender, at International Trade and Gender Symposium, by ECLAC UN

Mexico - 17 November 2020

Trade topics: Trade Negotiations, Gender and Trade

I moderated the roundtable discussions on trade-policy agenda and gender, at International Trade and Gender Symposium, organised by ECLAC UN, and supported by UK Aid and WTO. In this session, we discussed the similarities and differences between these different ways of addressing gender considerations in trade policy context. We took stock of what has been achieved so far through different initiatives, what other developments can we expect in the near future, and what is needed to make the inclusion of gender considerations in trade agreements a "game changer" for women. Three panelists for these discussions were the negotiators responsible for negotiating trade and gender components in trade agreements:

Georgina Wainwright-Kemdirim, a senior official at Global Affairs Canada. She serves as lead negotiator of Canada’s inclusive trade chapters.
Beni Fisch, works at the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission, where he is responsible for gender and development aspects of trade policy
Angélica Romero López, works as Director General of Multilateral Economic Relations at the Undersecretariat of International Economic Relations at Chile
