TV and newspaper interviews held with Turkish media

The Chair holder has had various appearances on Bloomberg HT TV Channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6yl50YJSpveLPOIDELBqKA) in relation to recent developments in international trade. This Youtube channel will soon be accessible via The WCP website. The interviews held with major Turkish media outlets have considerably increased the visibility of the WTO Chair at Istanbul Bilgi University. Moreover, more postgraduate students started expressing interest in writing their dissertation on WTO related topics.

WTO Public Forum 2017 participation and dissemination of information to wider Turkish public

WTO Chair Holder for Turkey attended the WTO Public Forum 2017 and also undertook research in the WTO library on the basis of the discussions followed during the Forum. The Chair holder had the opportunity to listen to other Chair holders presenting their research at the Public Forum. The Chair Holder gathered information and improved her knowledge on recent developments in world trade by attending different sessions taking place within the framework of the Forum.

Established a library section for WTO related books and news

With the books and electronic resources purchased, a section dedicated to the WTO related matters is being built up in the library at Istanbul Bilgi University. The books purchased bear the WCP logo and are displayed in the Library. Subscription to three WTO Law and news related databases are available to open access for Istanbul Bilgi University students and wider public who undertake trade related research in the Library.

Trade and Unfair Competition AND Trade Defence Instruments

WTO Chair holder offered a new LL.M course on “Trade and Unfair Competition” for the Fall term and a module on “Trade Defence Instruments” has been placed within the Certificate Programme on Competition Law. By offering both the LL.M Course and a module within the Certificate Programme that is open to both LL.M and MBA students, the Course admitted and instructed a total number of 50 postgraduate students (October 2017-May 2018).

The future UK-EU relationship

The findings stemming from the research is published in the UK House of Commons’ Exiting the EU Committee’s Fourth Report of Session 2017-2019 on “The Future UK-EU Relationship”. Following the evidence that the Chair Holder provided to the House of Commons, the work produced by the Committee has widely been acclaimed and the contribution has become a reference point for Brexit discussions.

Assessing the Impact of WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement on Oman’s Economy

The WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement recently went into force following its ratification by two third of WTO members on 22 February 2017. The world trade report 2015 estimates showed that the full implementation of the TFA could reduce trade costs by an average of 14.3% and boost global trade by up to $1 trillion per year, with the biggest gains in the poorest countries. Oman is aiming to diversify its economy away from oil while boosting the trade and logistics sector. The objective of this paper is to study the possible effects of WTO trade facilitation agreement on Oman’s economy.

Japan's Participation in bilateral free trade agreements

Studying trends and peculiarities of Japanese Economic partnership agreements and FTAs shows that they tend to become more complicated by scope and details. However, their utilization rate remains insufficient: less than 40 [percent. The transfer to the FTAs with country groups helps to overcome the problem of multiple rules of origin: already existing FTA with ASEAN corresponds to the situation of complicated value chains; planned EU-Japan agreement, RCEP and TPP-2 go in the same direction.
