Global Investment Policy Developments - Focus on AfCFTA Investment Protocol and Dispute Prevention

The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) hosted a distinguished talk on “Global Investment Policy Developments – Focus on AfCFTA Investment Protocol and Dispute Prevention” on 31st July 2024 at its premises in New Delhi. The session featured Ms. Priyanka Kher, Senior Private Sector Specialist at the World Bank Group, who shared her insights on evolving global investment policy trends, with a particular focus on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Investment Protocol and mechanisms for dispute prevention.
Drawing from her extensive experience in advising developing countries across Asia and Africa, Ms. Kher highlighted the significance of proactive investment retention strategies, the role of legal and institutional frameworks in dispute avoidance, and the emerging best practices in investment governance under the AfCFTA. Her presentation emphasized the importance of balancing investor protection with sustainable development goals and regional integration objectives.
The session was enriched by a discussion led by Shri Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Government of India, who provided a policy perspective on India’s engagement with international investment frameworks. The event concluded with remarks by Mr. Pushkar Reddy, Research Fellow at CTIL.
