Assessment of Ghana's Preparedness for AfCFTA Implementation
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) represents a transformative initiative aimed at fostering economic integration, boosting intra-African trade, and promoting structural transformation across the continent. As the host of the AfCFTA Secretariat and an early ratifier of the agreement, Ghana is uniquely positioned to lead by example in its implementation. This assessment evaluates Ghana’s readiness to operationalize the AfCFTA, considering its economic structure, institutional capacity, and policy environment. The analysis underscores Ghana’s strong political commitment, demonstrated by its early ratification and hosting of the Secretariat. However, effective implementation requires addressing key challenges such as trade facilitation, infrastructure development, regulatory alignment, and private sector engagement. The report highlights the importance of aligning national strategies with AfCFTA objectives to ensure Ghana not only benefits from the agreement but also contributes meaningfully to the broader continental integration agenda.
